PhD graduate of Capella University, an accredited online university, appointed to Oregon's Family Services Review Commission

Gail Friedly graduated from Capella's online PhD degree program in human services

MINNEAPOLIS, March 2, 2010 - Gail Friedly, a PhD graduate of Capella University, an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high quality online degree programs for working adults, has been appointed to Oregon's Family Services Review Commission by Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski. Friedly, who also owns a private practice that focuses on mediation and consultation, including child custody evaluations and training,   graduated from Capella's online PhD degree program in human services. Nearly 34,000 students are pursuing an online degree at Capella University (http://www.capella.edu), with 33 percent enrolled in Capella's doctoral degree programs, and 48 percent enrolled in Capella's master's degree programs.

"The education I received at Capella was far better than my previous degrees," Friedly said, adding that her 15 years of work in the child welfare field led her to become a mediator, specializing in domestic relations, special education, and open adoption.

In her role with the Families Services Review Commission, Friedly advises and consults with Oregon's director of Human Services in carrying out the Department of Human Services' (DHS) functions. She is charged with representing DHS client interests, monitoring their grievances, analyzing departmental or legislative budget and policy proposals, and making recommendations to the DHS director based on those proposals.

"I've always been interested in working with children and families. So to be appointed to this commission is truly an honor for which I'm grateful and appreciative," she said.
